Deadline reminder
Jul. 12th, 2010 06:22 pmDeadline reminder:
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has already sent in their summergen submissions.
For everyone still working, here's a reminder that stories are due on 31st July. That's about two and a half weeks away. (Pause to let you freak out for a moment.) I know, deadlines sneak up on you, don't they?
You must either send in your story, art or vid or contact the mods to request an extension by 31st July.
When you send in your submission, you will receive a reply to let you know we've received it. We'll try to reply to everyone within 24 hours, but as we get closer to the deadline, we'll be busy, so can't guarantee that. If you don't get that reply, please either re-send or PM me, just in case.
We all know life gets in the way sometimes and no one expects you to put a fic exchange ahead of more important things. If you know for sure you won't be able to complete your submission, please contact us as early as you can, and we'll arrange a pinch-hit.
Pinch-hitters:
For anyone interested in pinch-hitting (that is, taking over an assignment for someone who's had to pull out) please join
spn_genpinchhit - we have not yet posted any requests, but when we do it will be in locked posts in that community.
Multi-chaptered stories:
Something I forgot to include in the submission guidelines - if you are submitting a story that's too long to fit in a single LJ post, you need to let me know where the chapter break(s) should fall. You can either send the story as multiple files (e.g. part1.txt, part2.txt and so on) or put it all in a single file and mark clearly where each post should end. Something like this:
*************************
START NEW POST HERE
*************************
You don't need to include links to each new chapter - we'll do that for you when the story is posted.
One last thing:
Every year, there are one or two people taking part in summergen who really want to write two fics for their recipient, or who are just dying to write something for a prompt set they weren't assigned. Unless it's via a pinch-hit, this isn't allowed as part of the main summergen challenge. It's just not fair to everyone else if just one or two of our recipients get two gifts.
So I thought that, this year, after the main challenge is over and the authors are revealed, we could open up the community for those extra fics or other works (a bit like the "New Year's Resolution" challenge that follows Yuletide, if you're familiar with that). If there's a prompt in one of the signups you particularly love, or if you want to throw in an extra drabble or snippet for your recipient, you'd be able to do so. No pressure or obligation - it would just be there for those who want it. You can also mix-media if you want to: write a fic for a vid prompt, for instance. The only rules are it has to be gen, and it must be a response to a prompt someone included in their sign-up.
If you think that's a good idea, comment and let me know.
