Just a quick reminder that the early-bird deadline for submissions is tomorrow, June 28th. But no need to panic! There is an automatic extension to July 5. So get crackin'! Let us know ASAP (before July 5th) if you need to drop out, as we'll have to get a Pinch Hitter and they'll need time to work. If you bounce after July 5th, we may have to spank your bottom.
There are 38 participants this year, down by about half (just an fyi; no one is really surprised, lol), but it does mean there's less wiggle room than there usually is. We won't be posting into September, but then we ARE Summergen! So this year will be truly summery. :D

All the gifts for the 2021 season have been posted to our AO3 Collection, yet remain unrevealed for the moment! What an amazing assortment of fanworks we received. <3 Thank you to all the participants and commenters; this couldn't continue without you!

Hello, gang! Our first gift has posted! A word about finding your gift: We'll be posting notifications on our twitter, tumblr, and here, so feel free to follow any of those accounts for updates. You can also pop over to the Summergen AO3, and the "mystery works" should be towards the top of the list HERE.
Because we're still finding stuff we forgot *sweatsmile*, you're welcome to go back to the gift you created and add it to the 2021 Collection at AO3: SPN_Summergen_2021. (There'll be a drop-down on the bottom of the work's page, where you can choose a sub-collection.) It won't reveal the gift or mess with anything, that we can tell!

Jun. 25th, 2021 04:39 pmsummergen-mod.livejournal.comWe've had several requests to move the deadline back a smidge (for various reasons *cough*), so this is an official reprieve for TWO ADDITIONAL WEEKS! The new deadline is JULY 20th. We will also begin posting gifts on the 20th, just to keep things easy.
This should give all of us plenty of time! (Congrats to the folks who've already submitted; you dodged the drama bullet!) It also means we will be more hesitant to give extensions, based on anything less then an emergency — we still need to be kind to our pinch-hitters — so get crackin'!

How To Post to AO3
Jun. 16th, 2021 04:29 pmsummergen-mod.livejournal.comSome of you have already figured it out. HUZZAH! But for folks who haven't participated in an AO3 exchange before, it's super easy to post!
Go to your AO3 'Dashboard', and from either the drop-down menu attached to your name, or the left side-bar, click 'Assignments'. Hit the 'Fulfill' button, and follow the instructions. Post it; don't leave it as a draft. We have the comm set so that your submission will not go live until we tell it to. Don't worry if it's listed as 'Unapproved'; there's an AO3 loophole that allows you to access stuff through tags, if we Approve the entry before posting. If there's something wrong with the submission, we'll be in touch!
And that's it! But do let us know if you have any problems. We expect to run into a few!

And we're open! This year's sign-up is over at Archive of our Own: HERE
It's been test-run and seems pretty self-explanatory, and also editable! Matches will be made based primarily on the characters requested, and "additional tags" will be helpful to describe what you want from each prompt. Regardless, we'll give each match-up a skim to ensure it should provide at least two appropriate prompts. This year is a bit of an experiment, so please have patience with us. We'll all be exercising our creative muscles!

This year, we're going to give running the event through Archive of Our Own a spin, since other events have been doing so successfully for years now, and the platform seems to be a little more stable than LJ. LJ will still be our homebase for dissemination of information and the rules, but the prompts, match-ups and posting will be run through AO3 for 2021.
This means you must be a member of AO3. If you need an invitation to Archive of Our Own, please respond below and we'll wrangle one for you! It's a fantastic space for reading, tagging and archiving fic.
