Summary: Sam and Dean go to a case on a ship. Knowing their luck, trouble is bound to happen.
The black Impala was heading down the highway to her and her passangers, latest destination. The Winchester brothers got wind of their current case a few days ago from a newspaper. It mentioned a ship found in the sea with it’s crew vanished. And the ship looked wrecked. Like something had tore it apart. The borthers agreed to check it out. They checked out the wreckage and after Sam did some research, it turned out that it was not the only ship found like this. There were several other ships over the years. All torn apart and missing their crew, and all within the same area. It was pretty clear that it was a sea serpent. The brothers and a couple of other hunters in the area rented a fishing boat. They were on the trail of the monster for awhile now and they accepted when Sam and Dean offered to help. The brothers were heading to the port to go aboard. Their plan was simple once they were aboard, be on the lookout for the monster and kill it with iron rounds. Not the best plan, but they had nothing better. Dean was not too happy to leave his baby on the land for days though. And he didn’t like ships, just like he didn’t like planes. Sam wasn’t too happy eighter, but they started the case, so might as well finish it. Finally the harbor and the sea became visible along with their ship. It wasn’t big, but it looked beatiful in the sunlight. The brothers exchanged a glance: Here we go as the Impala continued her way to the port to "drop off" her passangers.
Finally arriving aboard, the brothers felt lucky and a little less nervous. The ship looked nice enough.
"So are we ready to do this?" Pete, the leader of the group asked looking at everyone. All nodded as the ship started and left the port.
"Okay guys lets get settled and then meet in an hour." he said then.
Minutes later found the brothers were settled in their cabin and talking.
"Dean, I don’t have a good feeling about this." Sam said. Helooked worried, scratch that he looked like crap.
"Was it a vision?" Dean asked quietly, knowing that with a boat full of hunters was not a good idea to talk about Sam’s visions. But with the visions you had to take these things seriously.
"No, just a feeling." Dean sighed at that. Sam was always the worrier of them.
"Sam, this is the best plan we got." He said then.
"I know, but something always can go wrong. Besides do you trust these guys?"
"No, but we have to work with them, we have more chance at getting the sucker then alone." Dean answered.
"And it’s not like we stay when we are done here." He continued. Sam just nodded and took out his laptop to do some more research.
-
An hour later they were all involved ina discussion about the creature.
"Are we sure it’s going to show up tonight?" One of the hunter asked. They discussed several theories on what the monster could be or where and when it might show up. They agreed it’s a sea serpent, but they were not sure when or where it will come out.
"Definitely." Sam spoke up now. "I checked all the attacks and if the pattern I saw is correct, it should show up." Another hunter spoke.
"So did I and I think it’s safe to say it will. So it’s our chance to get it."
"We should all prepare for the attack then." Dean said. "Afterall it basically tore ships apart."
The hunters went ont o discuss their plan in case the monster decided to attack. They needed a plan. Some of the hunters were to try and steer the ship so the serpent can’t tear it apart, while some were to shoot it with iron rounds.
After these were settled everyone went to work. The brothers were in the shooting team. As they still had a few hours, Dean decided to clean their guns just to be on the safe side. Sam decided to double check his research and was reading. That was when the problems started. Sam looked like crap earlier, but he definitely looked a little worse now. And he barely talked.
"You sure you are okay?" Dean asked. He didn’t like it.
"Yeah, I am fine." Sam said, but he jinxe himself when all the sudden he stood up and bolted for the bathroom in their cabin. Dean could hear him throwing up. After it was over Sam came out and he looked exhausted. He lied down on one of the cots.
"What’s wrong?" Dean sat down on the other cot.
"I think it’s seasickness." Sam said a little embarrassed. He was sure he was in for a lot of ribbing for this. Besides, this could cause problems when on this hunt.
"I didn’t know you get seasick." Dean said raising an eyebrow. They hadn’t exactly bee non hunts involving ships before. They weren’t when they were kids and as adults, Dean preferred to stay on land.
"I didn’t know eighter, like with you and flying it wasn’t really an issue until now, never really came up." Sam said. Dean could understand that. He dug out their first aid kit and pulled out anti-nausea pills, shaking one into his hand.
"Here, this might help." He said. Handing them over. Then he handed a bottle of water to wash them down with.
"It will make me sleepy." Sam complained.
"And you could use it, I will wake you when you are needed." Dean said. He knew his brother didn’t want to stay out of the hunt and Sam was stubborn anyway, but no way was he risking his brothers health. Sam finally complied taking off his shoes and lying down. Dean covered him with a blanket. This was really something they didn’t think of, well, at least Dean had another blackmail material on his hands other then Sam’s fear of clowns.
-
Sam spent the next few hours sleeping or throwing up.Which in itself was not fun. Dean gave him more anti nausea pills, but they were taking their time kicking in. Finally it was getting dark and Sam’s stomach seemed to settle. Sam was glad for that, he didn’t want to be a burden on the hunt and holding everyone back. Dean was still reluctant to let him out to hunt.
"Dean I am okay." Sam said again to placate his brother. "Really, I don’t feel like throwing up now."
"Dean, I don’t want to hold you guys back, I came here and I want to finish this hunt." He added.
"All right, but you stay near me and the first sign of nausea, you go back in the cabin, underdtood?" Dean relented. Damn those puppy eyes, he could never say no to them.
A few hours later after dark everyone was nervous waiting for the creature to attack. Everyone knew their roles and were on their places watching the water. It was still so far. Nothing moving. That was when it happened. They heard a huge splash and all the sudden they were staring at the gigantic creature. Dean was surprised. He knew it was big, but he didn’t expect that. Besides him, Sam looked the same. The serpent brought down it’s tail, but the part of the team in charge of manouvering the ship managed to get out of the way, but the tides still splashed dangerously against the boat knocking everyone off their feet. They got back and fired. But the serpent was too far and the bullets missed and only seemed to aggravate the monster.
"Try and go closer we can’t hit it like this!" Pete yelled and they attempted to go closer again. The serpent was growling and splashing it’s tail again, but they managed to get closer this time. The hunters fired again and fortunately this time Sam did managed to hit the creature. It didn’t kill it, but it seemed to weaken it. The serpent then dove for the ship to crash it, but the crew managed to steer clear again. Again the tides knocked everyone off their feet. Sam lost his balance and cracked his head against the wall he had been knocked into and landed unconsious and in a heap. Dean saw that and every instinct told him to go and help his brother, but there was a monster to kill and John’s training kicked in. The beast was weakened by the shot and tried to catch the ship with it’s tail again only to fail, that was when one of the other hunters had gotten in a lucky shot. There was a horrific wail that had everyone covering their ears as the serpent died and fell into the water. Dean wasted no time to hurry to his brother’s side. Sam looked pale and there was a cut on his forehead. Dean gently patted his cheeks.
"Hey Sam, wake up now, no time to nap." He said. His efforts were rewarded when after a few moments Sam’s eyes fluttered open.
"What happened?" He asked already trying to sit up.
"You hit your head, but we got the monster." Dean said putting a hand on his shoulder and helping him sitting up.
"Sorry." sam said rather sheepishly.
"It’s okay. You hit the thing and it was weakened enough so we could kill it." Dean said.
"Yeah, we all had a hand in killing it." One of the others said.
"All right, now that we got rid of this creature I think we all should go to bed and rest, we were up all night." Said Pete. Everyone agreed, and headed off into their cabins.
-
Of course there was no sleep for Sam and Dean, since Dean feared Sam might have a concussion. Sam said he was fine, but Dean could tell he was not. He was dizzy and threw up again. His pupils were thankfully equal and reactive to light, so for now they didn’t seek out a hospital. It would be hard while they are on the sea anyway. Not to mention they both hated hospitals with a passion.
"Sam, you sure you are going to be fine?" Dean asked. He was worried, even though more then a few hours have passed and Sam seemed to be getting better.
"Dean, I told you I feel better and I want to sleep anyway." Sam told him.
"You scared me last night, that’s all. And with your seasickness earlier…" Dean trailed off. "I am just worried."
"Sorry, didn’t mean to put a damper in your plan. I should have been more careful." Sam said, feeling guilty. He never meant to scare his brother.
"It’s okay, just don’t do that agin. and you didn’t put a damper in our plan, your shot helped to kill the serpent, you did good." Dean clapped a hand on his shoulder for emphasis.
"But tell you what, we never take any cases on anything that flies or floats." He added. Sam laughed, but agreed nonetheless. He was not going to go on a ship again, even if it earns him Dean’s ribbing for the rest of his life.
